Maintenance Monday – avoid musty books

Even though today most of us read books on our kindle, we still have our old books collecting dust on shelves. It would be nice to keep our treasured classics smelling fresh and new. Here’s how:

If you’re placing some old books in storage and don’t want them to acquire a musty smell, here’s the solution for you. Just place a new sheet of fabric softener inside the pages, and that old copy of To Kill A Mockingbird will stay nice and fresh until you need it again. If you fail to follow this tip or if you have books that are already musty, just place them in a paper grocery bag with an open box of baking soda. Fold over the bag, staple it shut, and let it sit for a week or two. Your books should smell considerably better when you take them out.
