After Tropical Storm Andrea blows through tonight, the weather should be nice this weekend for some great events across Maryland. In Columbia, Capital Jazz Fest is this weekend June 7-9. This year’s lineup includes Chaka Khan, Babyface, Eric Banet, Will Downing, and many more. Tickets range from $42-$175 per day. In their 36th season, the Salem Players are performing Annie Get Your Gun at Salem Lutheran Church in Catonsville this weekend June 7th and 8th at 8pm. If a free concert is more your scene, then go to the Avenue at White Marsh for their Party on the Plaza Concert Series. Music starts every Friday and Saturday night at 7:00. This weekend funk group Speakers of the House play Friday June 7th and rock group Late Ancients play Saturday June 8th. For a great Maryland tradition, get down to Hamden Hon! This is the time of year when it is normal to decorate your house in lights. Blue lights, white lights, blinking lights. People even drive around just to look at all the lights. And sometimes, people even pay to see them. Where can you go to see the Holiday Lights this year? Two of the most famous and spectacular lights display that are closest to our apartments at Burnam Woods, Chatham Gardens and Old Orchard are Miracle on 34th Street in Baltimore City and Symphony of Lights in Columbia.
Miracle on 34th Street
Through January 1, 2013
One block in Hampden puts on a Christmas light display that is surely visible from space. Neighbors in this block of rowhouses string Christmas lights across 34th Street. Inflatable snowglobes, musical trains and blinking angels adorn homes. A few even allow visitors to peek inside. The lights are on every night from Thanksgiving weekend to January 1st, including all night on Christmas Eve. FREE.
Symphony of Lights in Columbia Symphony Woods
Through January 2, 2012
Symphony of Lights is a spectacular drive-through display of more than 75 animated and stationary holiday lights. All proceeds from the Symphony of Lights benefit the services of Howard County General Hospital
Merriweather Post Pavilion
